With a 6-0 record (2-0 in Big Ten play), the Penn State Nittany Lions are back on the football map and in the conscious minds of football fans everywhere. Last night's 17-10 victory over the then 6th ranked Ohio State Buckeyes places Penn State in the top ten at #8 for the first time in years.

As a Penn State student and lifetime State College resident, I'm thrilled for the team, the fans and students, and especially Joe Paterno. Joe deserved this and I'm so glad that this season is going well for him. It's Joe's 40th season as head coach and 50th year at Penn State. He's almost 80 years old and his legacy should be that of a winner, as 4 out of the last 5 years have not been good indicators of what he's stood for and done.

His grand experiment (high graduation rates paired with high quality football players, producing productive members of society instead of just giving thugs a scholarship to win games for him) worked in the past and is now proven to work in modern times.

And, just like old times, it was Penn State's defense that stifled the vaunted Ohio State team, besting the Buckeyes' defense and their supposedly best linebacking crew in the nation. It is Penn State's linebackers that are the best in the nation; that can no longer be argued, we're Linebacker U. We're still a national football power.

Last night's game was covered by ESPN's Gameday gang and both Lee Corso and Kurk Herbstreit picked Ohio State to win the 8 PM showdown at Beaver Stadium in Happy Valley with a crowd of 109,800 (2nd highest in PSU history) looking on. We proved everyone wrong and it feels great to go from the underdog to a feared competitor.

Next week: Penn State at Michigan.

We are, Penn State!

Dude, do you realize you creep me out? I'm serious. You sound like a walking press release.

Anyway, I'm glad Jo Pa is doing well again. I hope he retires on top, as he should.

I've got pictures from the game that I took from my seats. They look pretty cool but were taken on my S710a camera-phone. It was so cool when the fans rushed the field.

http://homepage.mac.com/chrisd7/.Pic...8238F711DA.jpg Our 20,000 seat student section....they're all wearing white for what is called a "white out" game...it looks pretty awesome and that section caused OSU to call 3 timeouts because of noise defeaning cheers.

Wow, you're creeping torifile out. And he's a psychiatrist. At least we have the proper member title for you.

It was a well played game though.

They actually deafened noise? That must have been some strange kind of cheer!

I think it must have been the collective unbelieving gasps of the PSU crowd creating temporary vacuums.

Haha, why's that? I had to be a Nittany Lion, as both parents work for PSU.

Which probably means you're going there for nothing, or very close to it. Technically, with your parents salaries, the school is probably paying for you to go there. Interesting...

Come waste your time with me

Doesn't take much? What's that supposed to mean??? (I get funky vibes from some people on this board. I won't go into what I sense from Messiahtosh (or you, for that matter. )

And, yes, I'm a psychologist. I didn't want to split hairs, but since you mentioned it...

Obviously, he's easy to rattle. He's even made some comments towards me, and I'm the most normal, level headed member on this board.

Michigan just beat us on the last play of the game. What the fuck? That's what adding 2 seconds to the game-clock will do, when you're Michigan's coach (Lloyd Carr) and you argue for time....I guess you get it.

Since when were coaches also game-clock officials? Total bullshit.

Michigan 27 - PSU 25

PSU should be 7-0 and deep into the top ten, now we're just another team, thanks to the officials.

Bullshit.

if you were really that good it wouldn't have been decided by such a small margin.

If you watched the game, you would agree with what I've said.

Neither team decided the outcome, it was the officials (with some advice from Almighty Lloyd). Very sad to see it happen that way.

God you are insane, I did watch the game but apparently a little more objectively than you.
Even JoePa said they lost the game because they didn't kick away from Breaston. Paterno, he's a real man, he looks into the mirror when things go the other way. Doesn't look around for someone to blame.

Paterno was also quoted as saying, "He put two seconds back and that was the difference. The referee never came over and talked to me about it. He just said they're putting two more seconds back on the clock,"

You might want to cool it on the "insane" comments, bud.

The same thing happened in the Notre Dame/USC game, the line judge is responsible for ensuring the game clock is accurate in critical times, the time out was called and the line judge adjusted the time accordingly, he did not do it because Lloyd Carr asked him to. Paterno was upset at the lack of explanation.

As for the INSANE comment i was merely confirming your custom user title.

There were a ton of factors towards the way that game turned out. PSU missed two early field goals, Breaston ran back 40-some yards on the last punt and others before it, and several key plays were made. Face it, if Henne could keep a hold of the ball when he ran with it (and from what I saw he very well may have been down before the ball came loose) the score would have favored Michigan even more.

There was a missed call on a Michigan running back's fumble, 2 seconds were added when the rule book says: time is stopped when the official stops it, not when the coach asks for the time-out, the Michigan receiver's foot was out of bounds on a catch that they gave to him, PSU's questionable plays were reviewed but Michigan's were not.

PSU got screwed, no question about it. Anyway, we're still #12 in the nation, however we would have been #5.

Michigan is still unranked...

It was said earlier, but I'll say it again. If PSU was that good, this should not have been a contest.
