Maybe this will help people facing the same situation.
The internal HDD of my iMac 1st gen. has passed away and I replaced it with a Western Digital 250gb. When I started the iMac again using the Tiger install DVD as the startup disk and launched the install app, it did not "see" the new HDD (shows no image of the disk I could choose to install Tiger on). What I did is : open disk utilily, select the HDD and choose erase disk (quite weird since we could wonder what's the point of erasing a new disk that has by definition no data on). The result was that the disk image mount and the install app could then "see" it and proceed with its job. have a nice day iMacG5 20" 1stGen 1.8 GHz- 2Go - OSX 10.5.2 - iLife'08 - iWork'08 |

Uh, yea. You will need to format the drive before it will be available to install the OS.
I highly recommend zeroing a brand-spanking-new drive the first time to search for bad sectors. They are rare and it takes a long time, but can save you trouble in the future. |
