It's a nice mix of NES style metroid/castlevania with crafting/recipes etc.

The changes you make to the worlds are persistant.

I spent probably 8 hours just exploring the first planet, before realizing there were 4 more planets I could explore in the system I was in.

Then I realized there were another 20 solar systems, with half a dozen or more planets each that I could easily explore. Only I'd already done the quest that unlocked the *next* sector of space, so I wanted to go there.

I meant to play an hour, and looked up and it was 4:30 am, and I was desperately trying to convince myself not to make another trip down to the core of the planet in search of new tech.

That actually sounds like a pretty cool game. They were talking about it at work yesterday, I'm thinking I'll end up sticking with Minecraft for now.
