I do it! I already speak with my contacts MSN from
iChat!

I can use the new iChat AV 3.0 and after month seaching information, asking, trying this and these... this afternoon I can speak with my MSN contact using iChat AV 3.0.

Originally iChat AV support Jabber but not gateways server but exist one way to do it. I'm exciting and after much effort I want to enjoy the result. In a moment I will explain like obtaining it.

Excuse my english but I'm spanish

If true, that'd be nice considering MS just dropped MSN Messenger support for Mac OS...

If true, it means I can block people without having to close Adium and open MSN... *grins evilly*

No, they dropped MSN support. MSN != MSN Messenger, but rather the MSN ISP.

Has anyone else tried this? I assume it is for the tiger edition of ichat so I would like to see if it works. Msn 4 sucks! If it doesn't work I guess there is always adium or msn messenger 5 whenever that comes out.

I can't prove that I say the truth then although put a photo
you could think that is fake. The best way to prove it is to inform how I did it.

I'm using Tiger build 8a393. iChat AV 3.0 don't support directly Jabber gateway. I say "directly" because is not possible to activate MSN gateway,
for example, using ichat. I used to other for Jabber client to activate
the MSN gateway in my Jabber account and to accept all my MSN contact.

Then I open my jabber account from ichat AV and... ¡¡wow!! All my MSN contact appear in my ichat AV!!

Just as with MSN it can do it with Yahoo, ICQ... It's a dream but it's real, I promise it by my life, I am a serious person. Ah! Not is possible audio/video.

The time will show it...

I think I understand what you mean there - if iChat 3.0 does indeed support MSN Messenger that would be awesome!

This is just standard Jabber gateway stuff, nothing to get excited about, and certainly not native MS Messenger in iChat. Audio and video won't work, nor will file-transfer through this mechanism.

MS Messenger support on the Mac doesn't half ease switching though. If only Apple actually licensed MS Messenger protocols from Microsoft and did a proper job of integrating, that's what we all want to see

I very much suspect StevesMom is correct. Still, in the event of anything bigger...

soulless: If you send me (brad@applenova.com) screenshots (use apple-shift-3 to create them) of the new iChat with the MSN capabilities, I will remove your name and any other identifying information from them and post them here.

Actually, MSN Messenger hasn't been updated since about 2003, back when OS 10.2.8 was the most current version. I just checked last night, too.

How exactly does this work? I am not familiar with the jabber client and how you use ichat AV Version 3 to do it. I would like to know how to do this so when I upgrade to tiger and that if Msn 5 isn't out by then even if it is and it sucks it would be great to be able to use ichat jabber to do this. It would be much appreciated if someone could explain it to me. Thanks!

I'm sure there will be a nice little setup assistant for Jabber just like there is now for AIM.

Don't worry. Apple will make it nice and pretty and easy by the time it's released.

Doutee, if you sign up for a jabber account, you can use your client to add MSN/ICQ/AIM/etc users to the jabber contact list. These then get imported when you sign in to your jabber account in iChat.
