I assume that with SMB built into MacOS X that there is someway for a Mac to see a Windows domain upon either booting, or joining a Windows network. I admit that my searching techniques may not be up to the task but I can not find any information on how to make this work. Any help or links to info would be appreciated.
Thanks. |

I have the same question / problem. Our network administrator has tried to add my PowerBook (OSX 10.3.4) to our Exchange 2000 server with no luck. Any instructions or guidance would be appreciated.

Have you tried the "Connect to Server" item in the Finder's Go menu?
This article may be of help (although it's a little dated): http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/a/ma...19/mac_pc.html edit: Here's one with screenshots for 10.3: http://www.pnhs.purdue.edu/faq/macsmb.php (In step 3, if you click "Add to Keychain" it'll save your password) The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. Airbag, not sure if you use brad's info to connect then create a shortcut that will auto connect when you click it.
ScottC, You don't add computers to Exchange servers!! If you just need email access then you only need your username and password and server settings to configure you mail program. If you are trying to join your computer to the domain (This is normally done to authorise your computer as well as or instead of your user account) then you can you this samba command (from terminal):- net join -S DOMPDC -UAdministrator%password Where DOMPDC is the netbios name of the domain controller. and password is the main administrators password. You will obviously have to get these details of your sys admin. Although if he is even slightly good at his job, he might have issues entering the Administrator password onto your mac command line! A possible work around, is that I think any user is permitted to join 1 PC to a domain, so it might work using your windows username and password. Oh, info from here:- http://www.samba.org/ OK, I have given up keeping this sig up to date. Lets just say I'm the guy that installs every latest version as soon as its available! Thanks for the help. The link you posted in your reply doesn't seem to work. I get an error, Page Not Found. Thanks anyway. Scott C. |

Hmm weird... Link updated to the main samba page, you will have to hunt down the relevant section in the docs.

In Applications/Utilities , open up Directory Access, Enable Active Directory (talk to your IT guys about all these settings)
When you authenticate to windows domain, just make sure your user record on a domain is set-up properly. ESPECIALLY short name. If it's incorrect, you won't be able to gain access. |
