I got an odd situation here -
My Finder works - I can use everything but I can't use the upper right portion of my menu bar - it's beachballing for all Apple's stuff (e.g. clock, volume, wireless connection) and the time has been frozen at 10:30:25 AM. Spotlight seems to function. I tried to relaunch my Finder but it didn't quite fix the beachballing issues. I still can access System Preferences for the same items that's beachballing on the menubar. When I try to clear/check the box that add the icon to the menubar, it beachball for a bit then refuses to clear it. Quite bizarre, no? Has anyone seen that before? How would one fix it short of rebooting? |

I'd go with the reboot.

You could also try killing the SystemUIServer process in Activity Monitor - assuming something isn't *completely* borked, it should relaunch itself immediately. FWIW, this process is what drives all non-third-party menu bar widgets (except for Spotlight). It's completely separate from the Finder.

Yeah, that did the trick - it was hung, apparently. First time that ever happened to me, I think.
Wonder what I did to break it, though... |
