I won't disguise my motives

I am constantly looking for new bands to listen to, and I was hoping others were too. This thread can be your chance to impress me with your wonderful taste in music.

Here are some people that I think are very good, and you most likely haven't heard of them...

Music Page

Hopefully you can give me some new bands to listen to!

Now how'd you hear of Sim Redmond, you ain't from Ithaca

You can get pretty sick of that group pretty fast here, though on new years they brought 3000 people down to the Haunt

edit: I don't know what genre they would be considered, kinda folk almost zydeco, kinda like childrens music. I think its like a zimbawean kind of music

I went through a huge sim phase in 7th grade haha briefly talked to the man himself at grassroots this year too, pretty cool guy.

Oh and things I've been listening to lately that are awesome:
James Brown
John Fogerty
Kris Kristofferson
Merle Haggard
Murder on 34th Ballad Street
Del Shannon
John Cafferty

and most importantly: Howard Tate

Friend said to check them out, but he never heard them, and because I'm download happy I downloaded the first album Good Thoughts. It was ok, but I liked the sample songs on their website (www.simredmondband.com) so I bought two of their CD's which I think are great.

I can imagine, it seems they do the Ithaca area a lot. I guess you live up there?

Who knows their genre, they are just really great to chill to. It beats trying to describe Dispatch which the best I've heard is 'Trivocal-funkcoustic-instrument-swap-groove.' Now THAT is accurate

Well, I could go on for days talking about 20th century composers, African music, Indian music, Avant Garde, and any number of obscure weirdos from here and there. But instead I'll just give a plug for my friends band, who recently released their first full length.

www.oedipusband.com Check it out, you can listen to the whole thing online, it's pretty good.

Explosions in the sky

The earth is not a cold dead place
Those who tell the truth shall live forever

If you can think of a way to get the music to you i could send you a few songs.

Not to sound like a knob but this music is full of emotion and if im uptight, i just press play and sit back and enjoy

You could upload them to my file browser on my website. Sorry if it's slow, I'm downloading a concert. I made a folder called "sampler."

How embarrassing

I fixed it now. Last night I realized when I wrote the upload function, it would only upload to the base directory, not whatever sub directory you happen to be in. Tried to fix it without really checking and got burnt. Lo siento.

The Arcade Fire. I've been pimping them out to anyone that'll listen. Their debut, Funeral, is probably one of the best albums EVER.

Neighbourhood #3 (Power Out)

Definitely check out The Tiger Lilies.

Edward Gorey loved them so much he sent a box of unpublished work for them to use. "The Gorey End" was the result.

Dispatch rocked the kazbah (unless I misspelled kazbah, in which case they just rock). Too bad they moved onto other things.

I like the Bright Eyes album, well both of them.

On a side note: where are you hosting those files from, I was getting insane download speeds like nothing I've seen outside of .edu!

I went to the Last Dispatch in Boston, and it was the most amazing thing ever. I'm still in awe as how great it was. I have to say I like Braddigan's solo stuff and State Radio is decent. I haven't really checked out Chad's stuff now.

Mule is cool, one of my favorite bands, and very similar to my favorite favorite band The Radiators.

grab this torrent of Warren Haynes and Friends (the allstar band he put together for the Carson Daley show last week) playing at the Bowrey Ballroom:

AWESOME stuff!

Here's a link (11 MB) to a song from a recent incredible Radiators performance.

It's a cover of my favorite song (Spanish Moon) by another one of my favorite bands (Little Feat), with the added bonus of THREE trombone players sitting in (it's at the Radiators 27th Anniversary show).

WOW, what a solid wall of jamming sound - ya'll simply gotta check this one out :smokey:

It's nice to see you youngins appreciating this stuff. The current rise in popularity of the bands I grew up with, to myself anyways, is astounding. Sure, bands like The Clash, The Cure, Bauhaus et al deserve a monument in musical history...but it's the *underground* stuff (I use this term because back in the day DT really was underground...well, until that one hit anyways) that I'm running most across recently.

It's fun.

So it goes.

Yeah, I was introduced to DT through a friend. They've got some great music, I'm glad that ya'll have heard of em, most people I talk to have NO IDEA who those guys are!

Well, to be perfectly honest, I had NO IDEA these guys were still around...

cyrusmekon, if you like Explosions you might want to check out June of 44. Maybe even Shellac, From Monument to Masses, The Standard....hell, even a little Sparklehorse wouldn't hurt.

All good stuff.

So it goes.

Did you upload to my site?, I only see part of an mp3 that is 250k that isn't playable...and thats it. Also your first link (as quoted) doesn't work for me.

Edit: Second link doesn't work for me either. Like the song that DOES work though

Sorry those links don't work

I tried to upload it to your site, didn't work. But regardless, everybody should get ahold of some Howard Tate through whatever means they can get, the best CD of his (sold by the coolest rare cd company):

Howard Tate - Get It While You Can at hip-oselect.com

ast3r3x: Do you have Bela Fleck, Mike Marshall and Edgar Meyers, Uncommon Ritual? Its pretty awesome, in fact really awesome.

The Constantines. They're a band from Guelph, Ontario and by golly do the ever rock. Not only that but the put on one of the most energetic live show I've ever seen. By the end of the show I went to there were 200 people dancing on stage and everyone in the band had climbed on top of speakers to avoid the crush.

So... The Constantines - Nighttime/Anytime It's Alright

I wanted to link to Shine a Light but Sup-Pop removed the link.
