This is a bit smaller than the larger U.S. flags I've been doing. I wanted to try the Betsy Ross flag...
It's 10-1/8" H x 19-1/4" wide. Cut, assembled, painted and weathered by me. I bought an 8-foot 1x4 board of faux barn wood (gray, textured, etc.) at Home Depot and dry brushed, sanded and did a sepia acrylic wash to knock back the stark, bright white. I think it looks pretty nice. ![]() NOTE: No retouching on the first pic...the sun was on the other side of the roof, up to my right. When I took the pic, those rays/halos (lens flares?) were in the original shot. Part of my body (and the iPhone) were in the shade, the back/right side of me was in blazing sunlight. Not planned, just happened. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() |

You've got to have orders up the whazoo by now.
![]() I can't really tell for sure by the pics, but are you using 2 different colored nails or is that just the light? Thought about going with wrought/cut nails at all if you're nailing from the front? Might add a cool, older element to the already distressed look. ![]() So it goes. |

These are strongly screwed from the back onto vertical bracing pieces, totally secure. The front nails are just black tacks, purely decorative, about a half-inch...they just go 2/3 into the wood. Paint adhered to some better than others.

Here's a batch of larger (17" H x 32" W) standard U.S. flags I made this past week. Two are already spoken for, and I'll make more. These were made with old 1x6 fencing, stacked three high. These look really nice, and I'm happy with how the distressing/weathering turned out (I get a little better at that, with each one I do).
![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Next one I plan to do (tomorrow or Monday, hopefully) will be a heavily weathered/faded 48-star WWII-era U.S. flag. Last edited by psmith2.0 : 2016-09-03 at 09:03. |

Send some up here. Rich yuppie types around here would snap them up! Just make sure you put Made in the USA somewhere visible on it. They like that stuff.

Wow, these really are cool Paul. If you look at selling these please PM me. I'd happily buy one from you. They really are that good and certainly something you could sell online as a hobby.
