Notch released the list of updates/fixes a couple days ago. It is available here.

That is a fuckton of bug fixes. Hopefully performance will be substantially improved. Booster rails will be even faster to make up for the cart booster glitch being fixed. Hooray speed!

Damn, I was going to post that list a couple of days ago, but spaced it.

I think I'm most curious about "Fixed water interacting strangely with glass." If that means he fixed the "falling water" animation to be clear I will be very, very happy. I might even consider a castle under the sea.

Oh and 2 words: Mushroom farm!

[edit]: I could've sworn we had a 1.6 thread already... I thought this was page 2!

So it goes.

I like the sound of hatches... probably my most exciting new thing.

That, and the sound that Billybobsky will make when the update messes with his trap

The sound is chakakahdahrd.

That sure is a lot of fixes. I do hope performance is actually improved too but don't recall seeing that on the list.

One was performance related, that being the sending of uncompressed packets in randomly HUGE loads. Compressing those is supposed to reduce lag. I'm assuming that would help with heavily detailed areas (like thousands of signs).

What was our wait-and-see time period for v1.5? a couple of weeks?

Where do you see this? The closest I see is "Fixed network packets being sent unbuffered", which means fewer packets but doesn't necessarily suggest anything about compression or lag. In fact, buffering may actually introduce lag in some cases when getting smaller packets more frequently is beneficial.

Thereabouts, but part of that delay was because I was at Disney World when 1.5 was released, IIRC. I'll need to test 1.6 on my LAN before deploying it. Hopefully it will be released tomorrow or Friday so I can have the weekend to test it, maybe getting it onto the server by early next week.

I read it somewhere on minecraftforum.net, but don't see the topic now (and still can't search it after the update there). Several people in that topic had discussed that, though I don't think any of them were staff, so I suppose it isn't worth taking too seriously.

I noticed when I logged in this morning too.

Don't forget to hold of on updating until the server is updated everybody.

Yep, it just might be a good idea to hold off on this one (as usual).

One thing that came to mind when I read this: "Severely nerfed fire so it spread slower, and doesn’t spread infinitely" is that 1.5 may be our last chance for another burning man. So, if there's no objections, I'd like to build one over the next couple of days. Maybe for a Saturday night burning.

Also, there's this: "Added allow-nether (set to true or false) in server.properties" - so if we find that the Nether is a pain or being mishandled we could always shut it off.

So it goes.

Actually....we should make a series of things to burn next to each other. And watch them all go up in flames. Grey, where are you making and what are you making? I'm thinking to do Heat Man from Mega Man 2. I mean, the guy's a fucking Zippo.

I planned on making it in the designated area. Where else?

It'll be totally obvious what it is when I start building it.

Awesome. I'll add another area right next to it for Extra Burnination Action.

Please don't put it too close. I'd like some space around it, and the flying TNT may have a negative affect on your creation.

Maybe we should back up the whole server before the Burninating begins?

Okay, I went and found the JAR and replaced it in the Library in the appropriate spot. Playing it with a Wacom tablet isn't the joy I expected.... and the standard texture pack is ASS.... will have to replace that.

Glad we're not hot on the update trigger.

One of the lessons you learn as a dev about software updates is you NEVER RELEASE ON A FRIDAY. There's a reason most major software houses release patches early in the week. Tuesday is popular for this reason.

Appparently 1.6.6 is coming later this week to fix a few extra SMP bugs, so maybe best to wait for that.
