I reckon we should have a thread where people can submit their fake invite to the apple event! With catchy slogans and photoshoppery!

Oh well, its probably illegal or something, but I have one ready to submit if anyone is interested.

As long as everyone knows they're fake and it's all in fun, people probably won't be upset. I don't know...I'm not a mod and can't make these calls.

You could always put it in the mockup thread, just to be safe?

It's only when people outright lie - and try to pass stuff off as real - that people get testy and want to choke the life out of them.

Back in the days when we were all hoping for a PowerBook G5, I remember thinking that, if Apple ever introduced one, they should just show a picture of it (with the "G5" prominent) on their front page, with the simple caption, "Holy shit."

Yeah, I thought about that, but I figured it'd be nice for Apple to show the damn thing for a change. Dazzle me with specs at the event, but let me drool and speculate over it in the meantime.

Plus, you get a double-whammy in the press. An "Apple is releasing on May 23rd" week-long buildup where more than us Apple fanbois might pay attention, and then the "Apple released today" press where everyone but us are delighted.

I'd love to see 709's MacBook on another background (the black kinda loses me in the black).

Other than that, I love it immensely (the MacBook itself, the "Lucky 13" tagline and the media RSVP e-mail address at the bottom (which I just noticed a few moments ago).

That's what I thought when I saw that, too. I don't think they'll ever actually show the product on an invite, but the slogan's pretty awesome (as is the mockup).

I had it on white initially, but with the whole '13/black/superstitious?' schtick the black background just worked for me a bit better.

In my second offering, earlier in the thread, I liked the deep, rich blood red I used. Haven't seen that used by Apple before as a "signature" product color (for example: that sky blue when the iMac G5 first came out, black for the new MacBook Pros, the various loud iPod silhouette colors, etc.).

The white and black "MacBooks" both pop off it pretty well, and it's a nice, crisp look (white, red, black).

And red + black = sexy (and might work with that whole "lucky 13" vibe).

Conjures up images of satin sheets, leather, lipstick, fishnet stoc...maybe I should shut up.

I liked the red background too. I almost did a goof on it like murbot did to your first one...

I was going to put "Black & White..." in the upper left, then "...and read all over." in the lower right.

Then a Walt Mossberg quote.
