Does anyone else get spam emails that don't even contain a link or text or a stock symbol or anything?

Every once in a while I get a spam email which is purely gibberish in the subject and the body. Nothing but a couple random characters. No links, nothing to buy, no forwarding instructions... nothing.

What is the point of that? I mean, yeah, normal spam gets something like 1 in 10,000 or whatever clickthroughs and is therefore theoretically useful. But whats the point of a spam email that does nothing?

Heres an example:

I mean, really.

Logic, logic, logic. Logic is the beginning of wisdom, Valeris, not the end.

I have no idea, maybe hoping someone replies asking what the hell it is thus confirming an active email address?

Or it had a script within the email to place malware on your computer. Of course, that'd be a no-go on a mac.

I wonder if it's a control method for machine previously infected with said malware.

I get those types of e-mails every now and then too.

Many of them will have English, real word titles...they just don't make any sense:

DO THE COLLECT, NONETHELESS ANGER

ATMOSPHERIC OVER BREAD BY LITTLE

I sometimes get a kick out of the sillier ones. But it's still aggravating and I think spamming should be a capital offense.

supposedly, spam like this is just seeing if anyone is home. Not sure why anyone would bother considering spam is sent rather indiscriminately anyway.

ahh, well that is because you don't know your history. The term "Pingvin" is an old Viking game closely relating to Tag. You punch someone on the arm and shout "Pingvin" and run away. Then they have to catch you.

What you need to do is find the person, say "Vindico ving! Pingvin!" and slug them back.

^^ One more quality post from the desk of Ebby. ^^
