Yes, I said Tom Watson. He was one behind after yesterday's round (which occasionally happens with big name old-timers in PGA events) but he's managed to stay with it and leads going into Saturday at -5. Not too shabby a score at 59!
Still a long way to go, but this is why I love the British Open. The weather and terrain become the great equalizer and suddenly it doesn't matter what equipment you use or anything else. All that matters is skills, smarts and course management. Tom Watson, a great British Open champion and student of the game leads, Tiger Woods misses the cut. The fans at the British Open are also generally fantastic. Enthusiastic without being rednecks. http://www.opengolf.com/Championship...mpionship.aspx ...into the light of a dark black night. |

Let's hope he can keep it going. Last year Greg Norman was leading after 54 holes only to falter on Sunday.
It's pretty remarkable Watson's even contending given hip surgery last year. |

The spirits are with him, or so they say... something special about the place and the man. Anything's possible. We're due a stroke of good news this summer (if you'll pardon the somewhat incidental pun). I'll be watching, that's for sure.

He said in the press conf that the 8 iron he hit on 18 was the shot he wanted, and that he hit it like he wanted. Hind sight he said he should have hit the 9.
Oh well, hell of a weekend sitting at home watching golf! Different Strokes, for Different Folks. And So On and So On, and Skoobie Doobie Doobie. |

Yah he was really revved up I think and just over-cooked it. Had that shot landed a couple feet further back, it's a different story.

Guy I work with from time to time is calling the missed par put a bigger choke than Van de Velde.
While a really poor put under pressure to be sure, in no way is this anywhere near the choke from Van de Velde. Too bad that 8 iron flew so far. We'd all be talking about the greatest feat in sports right now otherwise! Different Strokes, for Different Folks. And So On and So On, and Skoobie Doobie Doobie. |
