Not sayin', just sayin'

Ok folks, I've thought of various ideas for this month's PCT: monochrome (no B&W), shallow space, unusual viewpoint, Max depth of field, etc. I think I'm going with something that requires compositional skill as well as some thought about content, or perhaps lack thereof. This month's challenge is: Outside the Frame.
We are taught to capture a subject within the frame of our viewfinder and therefore image, but that frame can also bring meaning and emotion by excluding content too. It's a compositional challenge because you have to think all about what falls in and out of that little rectangular space. You also have to think about how what you capture within the frame refers to or creates awareness and knowledge of what can't be seen. So every image will have a story. Feel free to post a story, and if you wish, you can reveal what is going on outside of the image in words or another picture BUT YOU MUST USE SPOILER TAGS! Ideally, everyone will have at least some idea of what it is we can't see by the story we can and without the aid of the spoilers. This might be overly ambitious, but I hope folks will be motivated to try some new stuff. I know that it will make a great assignment for me personally even though I'm not in the running. I can't wait to see what others here can do! |
