I was trying to save a biggish file in peak (400mb or so), and it bogged down so I left it to finish overnight. In the morning it still wasn't finished saving the file, but I was able to shut the computer down through the OS (not a hard shut down), but I wasn't able to restart it. I tried to boot it as a FW drive on my old computer, but it wouldn't mount there either. Finally I tried to open the disk utilities on the intallation disc and the drive doesn't even appear on the list of available drives. I've never had a drive die completely on me, does this sound like what's happened? I've tried everything I could think of to try and reset things (PRAM, etc.). Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Yeah, might be a dead HD.
You might want to wait 30 min or so to see if it eventually shows up... fsck might do enough repair to get the HD drive to show up - that happened to me a couple weeks ago with my internal PowerBook HD as it was failing. |

It's a powerbook g4 about a year and a half old. I just got off the line with applecare, and they want me to send it in. I guess I'll get my money's worth out of a warranty for once in my life...
