Really?

World Explorer - Made for MineCraft

I'm on my iPad right now otherwise I'd link to it. You gotta search for now. Anyone play with this app yet? I'd love to buy it, but would hate Notch and crew to break it and be playing cat and mouse for the app to work. Especially with an official version in the works as I understand it.

So after reading the reviews on this I'm pretty disappointed. The developer didn't make it clear but you aren't playing the full game but rather classic. Not worth the money to me.

You know, of course, what this means if that rumor is true?

Java-less client code.

There's no Java on the iPad, and the client application is wholly built around downloading and running various jars. That's a huge change and undertaking, and because of that I highly doubt we'll see a full iPad version soon. I'd like to see it happen, but I'll extinguish hopes now rather than experience a slow let-down.

If an iPad version does come out, you all are *screwed*.

Who am I kidding? I'm screwed right along with you.

Yeah...

It's more something I'd expect for Minecraft 2, in however many years. Or Minecraft X.

But it's still a beautiful, hard-to-control dream.

It wasn't Notch, but I think one of the other devs hinted on Twitter that they have been tooling with a Java-less build for the purpose of an iPad release in the future. I'll see if I can find it again.

To be realistic (or a wet blanket), this could mean a port to Android, which makes a ton more sense since Java is the first class citizen on that platform.

I won't put a drop of faith in there being a proper port of Minecraft to iOS until I see a working demo.

I suppose Android deserves at least one worthwhile exclusive.

Does Windows Phone do Java? I should know that, but I don't.

Gamasutra confirms Minecraft is coming to "iPhone and iPad." So, unless something's changed in the last two months...
