Can we do one of these tonight?

By "this" I mean "lighting up one of Whammer's portals from the Nether and fixing it topside".

Say 9pm EST?

We go in with low-grade equipment and no armor, and if we lose stuff or die that's part of the fun.

Kind of like a 1st night experience in a new world.

If we do one at a time we can spread out the community fun!!!!

This sounds fun to me. I'm up for something like this. I think I'll be able to play at 9PM Eastern too. If not, start without me!

I'm out. No internet at home. Don't let that stop you, though, if you otherwise have a quorum.

9pm is 7 here, and I have company, tonight. I was going to make an official announcement for next Sat at 6pm MST to attack all the portals as a group. However, if you guys want to have a go, be my guest. If you go, please limit it to one portal for now.

I am going to start an official thread for that business, so I expect notes on location, coordinates and what you find. That way, signs and directions can be updated.

Happy hunting.

I would like to invite everyone to an official, AN Group Portal Lighting party on Saturday, Jan 11 at 6pm MST (8 pm EST).

There are 8 portals in the Nether Hub that need lighting and a little exploring, so anyone who wants to have a go, please post it here, and toss in any ideas you might have. (possibility that a portal might get explored by T and that pirate guy earlier)

We will take notes, overworld coordinates and such, and possibly designate areas for sand/cobble mining. Then, throughout the following week, I can update signs and directions in the Nether, and post important location bits in here.

LOL - sorry to jump the gun!

We should probably combine these two threads into one?

Threads merged! Emphasis added to kscherererer's post for clarity!

Also! By postponing to next weekend, I think I'll be able to join. WOO!

Drew suggested we might want to limit the amount of armor/weapons/whatever, go kind of "naked". Anyone have any thoughts on that? Maybe limit it to regular iron swords, some candles and food? It's really just a big exploration party, so I'm not sure I have an opinion on the matter.

We'll need to take along flint and steel for lighting portals (obviously), and for the possibility that a creeper knocks out the portals after we go through them.

Also, do we want to go through each portal as a complete team, or divide up into maybe two teams and tackle four portals each? it might go quicker that way.

And I want as many people along as possible, so if Brad's interwebs are lacking, we might consider waiting until they aren't.

P.S. Kscherererer is as old as the family. My friends used to say it sounded like a Ford truck starting in January.

I think it would be fun to do a few over time, in case somebody else misses out... but whatever happens happens

I like that idea, Drew.

I propose that the first outing we take the N, NE, E, and SE portals.

Then, down the road, we can take the other four.

Unless we get everybody the first night, then we'll nail them all.

Looks like I can't make it on Saturday. I'll be out of town for a funeral service this weekend.

Sorry to hear that, Brad.

Well, even if enough folks can make it, we're only going to open four portals. We'll save the other four for the following week or two.

Perhaps if you don't have enough people (or time) you could stretch it out into more sessions than just two?

Not to be spoilerific or anything, but one of the first portals we light up should be the NW corner. We could set up a sand-mining operation there as it's far enough away to not impact any of the closer deserts. kscherer mentioned earlier he's looking to mine some large quantity of sand.

So it goes.

Do you already have the obsidian for this or should we all be making some?

Drew, you should certainly turn cobble into obsidian for this event.

I do plan to play Saturday night so this should be fun!

Down in the Nether, I have a lighter and 64 blocks of O ready for the outing. That premature "slay the dragon" outing netted the kid and I a whole pile of the stuff, so there are no shortages.

So, that makes Turtle, Drew, myself and Grendagle, and I think 709. Don't know about Bobsky, but it'll be, like, eleventythree AM in Deutschland, so who knows (although I think that guy needs a serious, fun-filled break from that contraption he's building—before his head spins off! ).

Sounds like a bucket of fun to me.

Oh, and bring beer!

Thanks all for coming.

We got a little carried away and opened all 8 portals. Some are rather blah, and some are awesome, especially the location we chose for sand/mesa mining (West Portal). It is amazing. Sand mining and Mesa clay mining are open for use. Just follow the walkway to the mining [shaq] and mine there.

Anyway, I'll need to be able to edit the coordinates post above at some point to update that.

Wasn't able to make it - had to run some errands tonight. I'll have to check out the results when I get a chance.
