I mean, sure it is slated to flatten southern Florida and Puerto Rico along with other smaller islands along the way...

But that is one amazing looking storm!

Currently Category 5 with winds at 180mph!

These storms are getting prettier because stronger storms are more symmetric. Do you think the world economy can handle 4-5 of these $100 B storms / year?

The photographic properties of this are just amazing. Sunrise lighting Irma with Puerto Rico at the edge of dawn. The eye of that storm!

Winds are up to 185mph now! The current storm track has it going right over Miami too.

I'm sure it's changed now, but one of the islands down there had sustained 97mph winds recorded. I'm sure CNN and the others have more details.

Maria picked up steam last night and is looking pretty amazing now too!

Here's a full size version:

Looks to be heading right for Puerto Rico too.

As beautiful as Maria is she sure is mean. Looks like she disabled power for the entire island of PR today. NASA put out this image today of her in IR:

Between the IR and the NOAA shot above, you really get a sense of the structure as it extends... almost like a spiral galaxy’s arms 🌌
