P.S.: My scar will be bigger than 6 inches. (under left arm somewhere between 3rd and 6th rib... TBD)

[But to be fair, mine is demonstrable in public, unlike Captain Drew's]

Good luck, hope the surgery goes well. Hope you have speedy recovery, and hope you get the good looking nurses. Last count is doubtful, seems like all the nurses are really letting loose now that they get to wear loose fitting clothing, like scrubs.

You can say you got attacked by a shark! While saving a fluffy kitten that fell overboard! From a vessel on it's way to Darfur to deliver medical supplies!

I wish I had a scar. I'd be elbows-deep in dropped panties.

So it goes.

Best wishes, Curiousburb! I look forward to not having to capitalize your "c" anymore .

(My mom had the same surgery about 15 years ago, and it went very well. I'm sure there're even better at it now what with science and everything!)

Do not be oppressed by the forces of ignorance and delusion! But rise up now with resolve and courage! Entranced by ignorance, from beginningless time until now, You have had more than enough time to sleep. So do not slumber any longer, but strive after virtue with body, speech, and mind!

We'll chat about catheters afterward... you won't even be noticing it for a little while... AND I'll have you know that my scars are all north of my waist... in fact the scar that's ABOVE my belly button is where the prostate made its debut to the outside world!!

So.

We CAN compare scars... but let's wait until I get back in shape and let the bloating go down a bit.... (the surgery bloating, not the milkshake and french fries bloating)

All the bad bits will go by in a rush.... just pretend like you're on a train trip and watch the world go by for a few weeks

Burb, make sure the doctor holds onto the cancerous mass for you after cutting it out so you can piss on it, poor horrendously toxic chemicals on it, and basically just torture the fuck out of it. Let the fucker know it ISN'T FUCKING WELCOME.

Good luck CuriousBurb. Make it a sub-Burb.

I think that might be a joke of some kind.

edit: I'm giving up smoking for the last time and everyone else should too.

I quit ten years ago this September. Best thing I ever did.

And who can afford to smoke in this economy, anyway?

Back home. (Most of me).
Actually had 2 ops Thu... 2nd after they spotted fresh bleeding out of my drains while I was in recovery and went back in to recauterize something near trachea.

Surgeons removed:
  • Upper lobe of left lung (with Cancer bits off for more detailed analysis),
  • at least one inflamed lymph node near my back (sent for testing)
  • misc associated blood vessels, bronchus, nerves, other bits, etc.
  • a few litres of blood/fluid drained out (can't recall totals, but more than 500ml the first 2 days, then less each day)
In exchange, I got:
  • 'Proper Man scars'... 26 big metal staples under left shoulder blade and left arm, (plus internal stitches)
  • Additional holes under left arm where drain tubes were (upper tube almost 30 cm long when pulled out... grinding nerve whole way )
  • Serious pain , (some adventures about that, but another time for tales) and a weeks worth of pills to help moderate
  • cartilage/ligaments/muscles between a few ribs cut (I can hear/feel them grind at times)...
  • possibly permanent crooked posture/loss of muscle tone on left side since internal structure now different
  • possilby permanent numb spots where nerves removed (time will tell what heals and what

Good:
  • nights without loudly snoring neigbours, alarm monitors, and constant interruptoins during day for fresh tests
  • my own bed in quiet town with view of ocean and sound of birds to wake to
  • better food
  • provisionally Cancer free (not 'officially cured' until 5 years of clear scans)
Bad:
  • no more push button morphine pump for quick relief
  • no magic adjustable bed means pain until I find magic pillow positioning
  • can't sleep on sides or front for months at least = stiffness adds to pain in mornig
  • terrified of sneezing/hiccoughs/coughing for months due to pain caused and risk of damaging self until healed more
They've promised me copies of my full records, including Xray, CT and PET images on disk.

I'll see if I can upload pics of scan and/or scar in a day or so.
MBP grumpy with DHCP or netwrok prefs or somthing, so wrting this from old mini.

Pills wearing off fast and sleep beckoning... transition from upright to lying on staples is NOT fun

All those who believe in telekinesis, raise my hand.

I wasn't expecting a full report so soon. Shall I remove, at least provisionally, the "Big C" from your name now?
