We had the darkest winter since 43 years, so not many occasions for a picture with some good light. Last week we finally had a few sunny days, but I was too busy at work to take some pictures.
And now winter has come back again: (I was sitting in our warm living room while I took that shot of my wife riding by) My photos @ flickr The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either. -- Benjamin Franklin |

I like that one Drew, and the John Cusack reference. Good movie.
We had the opportunity to take a short Florida vacation in February. Aside from a conference that, ironically, I went to in Florida only a few weeks before, in January of this year, that was the first time I had been back to Florida since living there briefly as a young kid. These two shots are from Key West: A Big One Civil War Cannons - Fort Zachary Taylor Loved Key West. I'll post more, when I get a chance. Love ’em, Chinney. Did you have to wait long for the ship to bite?
Looking forward to the rest. |

These shots are from the Miami Beach portion of our vacation.
The entrance to our hotel: The actual 'beach' at Miami Beach is lovely and surprisingly uncrowded, at least when we were there in mid-February. No lifeguard on duty just before sunset. Miami Beach is an unusual place. The word highlighted in this photo captures an aspect of it. There are other aspects too though. Interesting vacation - we enjoyed ourselves. Nice ones all around. I love the Florida shots, Chinney. So nice to see the ocean, especially in Florida in February.

Another one from Key West this past winter. Fabric and fantasies in a pirate wardrobe specialty shop, where both my wife and one of daughters bought some nice dresses.
This one is for Drew. When there's an eel in the lake that's as long as a snake that's a moray. |

Great combination of elements in that pic GSpotter.
Here are another couple of pics in Key West from our own vacation (vacations are a good time for photography ) An old house, in need of paint, but still looking good: My brother-in-law, taking a moment's pause inside Fort Zachary Taylor: When there's an eel in the lake that's as long as a snake that's a moray. |

Great dog !
Here's another from the last vacation: The U11 (at the submarine museum in Fehmarn): Ok, the post processing is a bit over the top, but I wanted the picture to be a bit more dramatic... I like the processing. It is appropriate to the subject. Interesting and evocative picture.

I'm with Chinney. The over the top processing is used really well in this photo. Often times it comes across as very amateur, and dumb. This is however a really good example of how to process a picture too much and make it good. (if that makes sense)
Out of Curiosity, was that mostly sharpening or what effect did you use? "History will be kind to me because i intend to write it" -- Winston Churchill I am prepared to meet my Maker. Whether my Maker is prepared for the great ordeal of meeting me is another matter. -- Winston Churchill |

I like the way Chinney aligned the roofline of the old house with the top of the rusting gatepost, above.
I once lived near someone who called her dog Peanuts (plural). The dog often played outside and every evening the owner would go outside and shout “Peeenniiiiis!” – or what sounded like that to every teenager in the neighbourhood – until Peanuts came home. Was Peanut shot with a Canon 50 mm f/1.8? Looks like that lens’s bokeh. GSpotter: I usually like your processing but in this case there is something that always bothers me: large-radius haloes (around the conning tower). The hull itself looks good and appropriate. |

I used HDREfex to get the details in the sky (and partly the hull) and than used ColorEfex for further boosting (I think I even applied Bleach Bypass...) My photos @ flickr The man who trades freedom for security does not deserve nor will he ever receive either. -- Benjamin Franklin |

Peanut was shot with a canon 24-105 i think. Might have been my 17-40 though.

This night, my sister-in-law's dog died at the biblical age of 17 years at our home. We had her for a few days while my sister-in-law was on a trip with her father, but Sunny's condition deteriorated. So my sister-in-law shortened the trip and came back to get to her dog as soon as possible, but she just came back in time to have a few hours with her dog before Sunny died.
About a decade ago, we had Sunny for 2 years in care. At that time she basically became Rocky's foster mother. I took this picture of her last week. She was almost deaf and blind, was partly desoriented and in pain so from a rational point of view, it was good that the finally could die, but the heart isn't rational...
