What is interesting is I didn't see the CPU disclosed for the new mini. Did I miss it completely? They talked around it but I didn't see it specified.
The new phones look nice and would be an improvement from my 11 Pro but I'm still having a hard time looking at seriously ordering one for me. I might for my wife and then offset our phone replacement cycles. We were staggered for years but then we switched carriers and we synced. Might be time for her to get an upgrade and I hold back. The new Watch looks like a decent spec bump but not enough to upgrade from the S6. Mrs T is still on the S4 (I think) so maybe I look at something like that for her as a Christmas gift or something. Everything else felt like jabbering on stage to me. Let them put all the other crap in a press release so they beat on their collective chests without wasting my time. At the end, during the wrap-up, I thought I heard them say A15 for the new iPad mini. That's nice, putting it on par with the new phones.
Yep, A15 Bionic. |

You'd think they'd do all the iPads at once, in a single event (well, at least the non-Pro models). Because even if they were to hold back some (that affordable base model), then it would all be done together and you you'd have them all upgraded as a set, the iPad, iPad Air and iPad mini.
From today, with confidence, you could know all the non-Pro iPads got their yearly update and were a safe, no-brainer purchase. Right now the base model has the A13 (up from the A12, I assume?, which is fine and helps keep it affordable), the new mini has the same A15 as the new phones. And then the Air is still at the A14. Why not just wait and do those non-Pro iPads as part of the MacBook Pro event, or include the Air today with the other two, also going to the A15? There's going to be this one-month period where the "better than base model, but not quite Pro" iPad Air is on last year's chip, when everything around it got updated today. I know it's only a few weeks(?) away, that other event. But it just seems weird to split the models like that. That means someone who doesn't follow this stuff is going to drop serious money on an iPad Air in the coming weeks, only for Apple to give it a nice upgrade in 2-4 weeks at the MacBook Pro event. I don't see the point in that unnecessary, potentially-confusing "stagger". Last edited by psmith2.0 : 2021-09-14 at 13:55. |

Perhaps one day there will be three events:
iPhone, iPad, and Mac, each with their respective "accessories" announced alongside. AirPods with the phone, etc. Maybe. I doubt it. I think they should just do the iPhone and watch in September and any Mac and iPads (all three non-pro models) in October or even November. They don't need three events. Two will do it. Two in two months is about all people could realistically deal with when they start to get all "lifestyle" and jibber-jabber-y anyway, and, frankly, some of those presenters just aren't all that engaging. I start to drift when hearing endless spec boilerplate.
If they'd taken all the iPad-related stuff out of this event, it would've shortened it by about 15-20 minutes. Makes for a shorter, more focused iPhone/watch show today, and then those 15-20 minutes (plus another 5-10 for the updated Air, so 30 minutes total) gets added to the October/November Mac event. Each event being not much more than one hour (and well under 90 minutes). Two major product categories each...boom-boom, boom-boom. I like how they moved their way down the coast. I recognized San Diego as the final (iPhone destination) the Coronado bridge and the whole harbor/waterfront area. Last edited by psmith2.0 : 2021-09-14 at 14:27. |

Is there a camera comparison chart for current and previous model iPhones? I'm just curious how they line up. Like how does my 11 Pro compare to the 13 mini or Pro?
I'm more and more beginning to see the iPhone as my wife's main camera since she never has her point-and-shoot. Heck, I don't even know where it is right now. I don’t know anyone with a dedicated point-and-shoot digital camera. For years now their iPhones have handled that.
There is usually a comparison feature on the main product page. Something like this? |

There normally is, but it only compares current models. So I will likely end up going back to previous spec sheets, I just wonder if there is already a nicely laid out site that does that for me.
