I bought this monitor ( http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage....=1142292834310 ) earlier today because I would get a 50 dollar gift card that I can use later when I find the printer or external HD I like. Anyways, I was wondering if anybody can tell me if it is possible and what I need to connect my cable connection to it when I want to use it as a tv. (the specs with the inputs are in the link) Or is there something better like eyetv. (something I have read about here in the forum, don't know if thats what its called)
Please no comments on monitor brand, quality, etc, etc. I know it is probably not the best but I liked it on display and was the best for the price at my local best buy. MBP 1.83 GHz, 2GB RAM |

It's got component and RCA inputs so if you have a cable box or something you can go direct out from there into the monitor. EyeTV is a USB tv tuner which you could run while doing other things. Elgato makes the EyeTV if you want to look into that option. But as for just using component or RCA cables, you're good to go.

Given that your monitor isn't at a standard HDTV resolution, I believe your only option is to use an eyeTV, since I'm fairly certain that monitor won't be able to scale another resolution without looking like crap and your cable box probably can't output 1680x1050. If you use an eyeTV your computer will handle that.
edit: What jdcfsu said is true. Sorry, I assumed this was a high-definition cable box that would be outputting DVI. |

I don't know if its any help, but I use this monitor with my xbox ( not 360 ) and it automatically scales the image to encompass the full screen. I use component cables and set it to broadcast in widescreen. I am not sure if this goes against what Ryan was saying or not, or if its any help.
Its a very nice monitor, btw! |

Thanks a lot for the info guys. Looks like I did a good purchase after all, in terms of getting what I wanted it for. I was just about to ask if I can plug in an Xbox 360 straight into it and it seems like I will be able to after I read the last post.

I just went to Wal-Mart and came back empty handed because I did not know what exactly to get. I do not have a a cable box, just the standard cable cord which is what is suppose to connect to something (the thing I don't know) and then from that output to the monitor. Can someone be more specific on what to look for or if you can post some links of the products. EyeTv is something I will probably be getting as well to record stuff but that means I have to have my MBP on all the time when I want to just watch television.
