Hi, I've got a problem with Safari when saving files. Some files, eg zip, get saved normally, but some (such as .rar) Safari saves as txt files (SomeArchive.rar becomes SomeArchive.rar.txt etc). I'm running OS X 10.4.4 and Safari 2.0.3.
Thanks

The problem is that the server is using the wrong MIME type and is telling Safari that it's a plain text file. This is a common issue with people using cheap/lazy hosting services. Contact the site owner or admin to fix it.

The solution, along with emailing the perpetrators of these acts, is to simply rename the downloaded files with whatever extension they should have (usually just involves removing the false extension) and open them as normal in whatever app they should use.
