I have had my quad for 5 weeks or so, and have had it shut down 5 times with the famous message that comes up in the middle screen in 4 languages telling me to Hold Down the Power button and shut down. (The one this is slightly transparant.)
The first time it happened, the Quad was up and running for 2 weeks, the second like a week, but in the past week it has occurred twice, including one within 24 hours after the 10.4.4 update. I am not sure if I should be worried. My only other time I saw this happen is on my kids PB 12" after it came back from AppleCare with a new HD that had failed and then the motherbard failed a week later (all replaced by Apple under Applecare.) The shutdown almost always happens overnight (except the time yesterday in the middle of the day when I was away.) It always happens when I am not using it. I typically have the following Apps open: iMain Safari iCal AddressBook iChat EyeTV Activity Monitor (love to watch the 4 PCs working!) FolderShare (hated to find out this was owned by Microsoft ) Dashboard Virtual PC (7.0.2) which is running XP and almost always in VPN mode to work with Outlook 2002 running My guess is it is VPC (like to blame Microsoft), but is there any way to know for sure? If I was smart enough, I could have saved the message on when I reboot. (If some one can point me to where it is saved on my computer, I will post it here.) Thoughts? |

VirtualPC seems to be involved, since it shows up in two of your backtraces. Perhaps something goes to sleep while you're not using the machine, and then some network traffic comes in through the network, causing it to crash.
Do you need Outlook in VPC? Can't you use VPN on the Mac, and perhaps just another mail program (or Entourage, if you need more than just mail from Outlook)? Trying that would at least help to narrow the problem down. Perhaps you could start by trying to set up the VPN on the Mac, but keep using Outlook. It could be that the VPN software is doing funny things to Windows/VPC. |
