Can you? Sure, just set the display to never sleep.

I think he forgot the word "keyboard" as in "back-lit keyboard" rather than "backlight".

Yeah, I meant always leaving the back-lit keyboard light on. Can I? No? Anyone know any tricks to do that?

Couldn't you (I've never used a Powerbook/MBP for very long) just cover up the speaker that has the light sensor in it with paper or something?
