Will apple ever release a cell phone?

So far i;ve heard three such rumors from people who clima to be very close to apple. anyone hear anything?

this would seem to be at odds with their motorola deal, but you never know.

This rumor has lived on in desperation for years, since long before even the iPod was born. I still see no credence in it yet.

The cell phone market is very different from the computer or even the music market. It's much more competitive and advances with features much more rapidly. It would be very difficult for Apple to offer any significant innovations or features that aren't already had by other manufacturers.

Then add in the politics of phone X working with service provider Y...
