I don't know that you'll be able to find it on iTMS, but MC Solaar is an excellent choice.

If you don't mind recording an audio stream, there's a nice track on MC Solaar's site. Very upbeat.

Click on 'Haut' under Mac to get the 256 stream.

Also:

Serge Gainsbourg
Françoise Hardy
Stereolab (sometimes in French)
Superbus (very mainstream pop, sounds like Green Day with girls)

If you want to get cute:

Yves Montand
Edith Piaf

Georges Brassens evokes a very Parisien air - http://georgesbrassens.artistes.universalmusic.fr/

Another French artist available in iTMS would be Calogero. I especially like "Face a la mer" from his album "3" - that was also a huge hit in France last summer.

Eglantine Gouzy has sort of trip hop drum beats and atmospherics with gorgeous breathy vocals and stuff. She's really good.

had the same problem. I think the answer is no - you register for a given store with a given credit card and can't register in another country without having local details. If anyone has successfully reregistered in a new jurisdiction I would be intetested to hear.

yeah...england was easy...lots of english music in my collection (damn the british almost own pop music all by their selves)

opening slideshow--coldplay (sorry pscates)--don't panic
beatles--military guard---revolution
beatles some more-- at abby road and sleeping on the bus ride--something and i'm only sleeping
Bowie--London bye ta ta---walking around london
The Jam-Down in the Tube station at midnight
hendrix--spanish castle magic (warwick castle trip)
the smiths--how soon is now---my daughter loves his voice, and this is a classic song

Meanwhile, I can't even get my iPhoto library organized.

Sounds great g. I hope your daughter really likes it.

Well, you're not using much current British music. Therefore, I see no impediment to Plastic Bertrand. OK he's Belgian. But he sings in French. And he is, after all, the King of the Divan. That must count for something, surely?

Only on 'Sexy Boy' (the album is mostly instrumental anyways). By far their best, imo.

yeah...but my daughter likes the beatles and they were at abbey road (doing the required silly walk across it)

forgot Basement Jaxx doing where's your head at during a london museum visit that had lots of statues without heads...don't think they are english, but couldn't pass that up

as for why current french pop as oppossed to older stuff like i used for england??

well, i don't understand french singing, so the words mean nada to me, unlike the songs in english, and so i figure, old, current no difference to me...might as well go current....

Everything but the 'Sexy Boy' words are in French.

[edit]: Here we go:

Quote:
Sexy boy, sexy boy ...

Où sont tes héros aux corps d'athlètes
Où sont tes idoles mal rasées, bien habillées

Sexy boy, sexy boy ...

Dans leurs yeux des dollars
Dans leurs sourires des diamants
Moi aussi un jour je serai beau comme un Dieu

Sexy boy, sexy boy ...

Apollon deux mille zéro défaut vingt et un an
C'est l'homme ideal charme au masculin

Sexy boy, sexy boy ...

English translation:

Where are your heroes with bodies like athletes
Where are your rough shaven, well dressed idols
Sexy Boy Sexy Boy
Dollars in their eyes
Diamonds in their smiles
One day I too will be beautiful like a god
Sexy Boy Sexy Boy
Apollo, perfect x 2000, 21 years old
The ideal man, masculine charm
Sexy Boy Sexy Boy

Daft Punk are french and great upbeat music, but you wouldn't really tell by the music(i.e. no french lyrics).
