I just began using my new Logitech MX1000 and it is absolutely fantastic.

However, I am unable to use Logitech's drivers to program the mouse buttons for expose.

Logitech allows buttons to be programmed for key strokes. I attempted to program three buttons for F9, F10 and F11, only to have the logitech driver refuse to allow this.

If I disable logitech's drivers, I can program buttons for expose using OS X, but I get a range of buttons on the mouse that become functionless because they can't be programmed using OS X.

How can I program the buttons for expose using the logitech driver?

Try turning off expose, setting the buttons how you want them, then turning expose back on. I *think* that worked for me.

I had to do that as well. I was baffled at first, but than I realized I was just being stupid.
