Ok... I don't think I am crazy, but I might be....

I was searching for posts by Hassan i Sabbah in the user name search field and it offered Hassan i Sabbah as an auto-completion when I had only typed Hassan... I wasn't able to get it to repeat itself and it was clearly in the format of the forum and not something my browser (safari) produced...

Am I crazy?

Hey, nice find! It only seems to work in the 'regular' Advanced Search page, though.

To the Powers That Be: Is there any way to duplicate that behavior in the Member List search dialogs?

billybobsky,

What you are seeing is the magic of AJAX. As you type, a JavaScript periodically calls up a special page on the server and gets a list of matches that are displayed in the list. vBulletin 3.5 added this functionality to fields for member names.

AJAX uses a complicated set of functions to pull this off. It's certainly possible to add this popup to the search field on the Membes List page, but I'm not comfortable enough writing the code for it right now. Maybe in the future when I have more time to delve into vB's particular implementation I'll consider it.

For more examples of AJAX power, hit Google and check out things like Inquisitor Instant Search.

The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. The only way to guarantee thoughtful, informative discussion is to write thoughtful, informative posts. AppleNova is not a real-time chat forum. You have time to compose messages and edit them before and after posting.
