I have checked the preference, but doesn't seem to have an option there! Does anyone know? Thanks

Maybe he's the new spelling bee champ and doesn't need for a computer to tell him how to spell?

Just a thought.

In that case, the spell checker would never hinder his writing and he therefore wouldn't need to turn it off.

I'll repeat rasmits' question: why?

Because he ran out of questions that he could easily use google to find the answer?

Well in fact I would like to know how I can disable spell checking OS wide. Most cocoa apps use OS X's built in spell checker.

For me that is annoying because I live in the dutch speaking part of Belgium, but I insist on using OS X in English and thus the spellchecker marks almost every word I type as incorrect...

Rev High !

The UI language and the spell check language are completely unrelated. In fact, you could also set the spell checker to multilingual, in which case it will recognize on a per-sentence basis what language you are typing in.
