Having a bit of trouble with Windows 7, via Bootcamp, on my 13" MBP lately. I just installed it yesterday, and everything appeared to be working, but when clicking on "Documents" and another folder or two, I get a blue screen with some sort of hardware error. It dumps the cache...I think, and then restarts. The only filename I've been able to make out in that short time is applemnt.sys. I've tried a couple things but nothing has worked. Has anyone had this trouble?? Thanks a bunch!

Try renaming c:\windows\system32\drivers\applemnt.sys to something else to move it aside, then installing the newest version of Boot Camp (I assume you're on Snow Leopard).

Sounds like a driver to mount HFS+ file systems in Windows. Is this true?

That's my guess. (I know Boot Camp 3 has such a driver, but I'm guessing as to whether applemnt.sys happens to do that.)

Windows brings up a error box on reboot with some more info:

Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: BlueScreen
OS Version: 6.1.7600.2.0.0.768.3
Locale ID: 1033

Additional information about the problem:
BCCode: 50
BCP1: F2D5570C
BCP2: 00000000
BCP3: 8393A611
BCP4: 00000002
OS Version: 6_1_7600
Service Pack: 0_0
Product: 768_1

Files that help describe the problem:
CWindows\Minidump\122309-25677-01.dmp
CUsers\Me\AppData\Local\Temp\WER-49389-0.sysdata.xml

I've tried renaming all the apple system files there-- (applehfs.sys, the multitouch controller, etc.), deleting pretty much all the drivers in "Uninstall", and some in Device Manager, (including the Bootcamp app) and then re-installing Bootcamp + drivers, and deleting all my temp files. Also, my Maintosh HDD partition shows up sporadically under "Computer" and then will not be there on next reboot. So a file systems error might make sense. Thanks

Have you tried reinstalling windows? Windows 7 worked fine on my 13" MBP.

Ya know, that's a good idea. I was hoping for an install-over, and didn't reformat the partition so maybe there's some residual files or something. I'll try a reformat and install. Thanks partner!

Ok, I reinstalled with a full deletion of my bootcamp partition, and I'm still getting the same error. It also makes me really upset because it's rejecting my $30 student key after one-use...probably because I didn't install over the top of XP or something. ERRGGGH I hate Microsoft some/all days. Anyway, still getting the applemnt.sys error if anybody knows anything. Thanks again!

Yeah, an upgrade version must be installed over XP or Vista.

It can be really picky, one time I had to reformat my entire hard drive to get windows to install properly.

Well it's installed, but not activated. I don't think it's an installation error though. The error happens when I try and access any non-Windows files/folders...for instance my jump drive, or the items placed in "Documents".

So, you are trying to use documents made by Mac OSX apps, or just entering the folder? If you are trying to open documents, that would be the problem, they wont work.

Even if Windows couldn't make sense of a file, it shouldn't Blue Screen. At worst, it should pop up a dialog box asking what program to use to open the file.

Just by entering the "Documents" folder, it will crash. First time I ever noticed it was when I tried to open the "Windows.Old" folder, just to view the files I'd saved from XP.

I don't think anyone here is a Microsoft programmer, so I doubt it would help. There is no reason, that I can think of, that opening folder could bring down the entry OS, unless there is a virus.
