I want to remove Garage Band and Printers from my machine. The following screenshots are from Omnidisk Sweeper. I have never used any printers or garage band so it is just unnecessary wasted space. My question is if I delete at the directories highlighted, am I deleting essential system files that will hamper the OS from running normally?

You can definitely delete GarageBand and its support files without any problems. I believe that deleting the printers is no problem, either, but the link I had speaking about that doesn't work anymore. You can also try Monolingual, which deletes all the languages you don't speak. That can free up quite some space when you have lots of applications installed.

Yep, that's the one. I didn't notice before that part 1 (which includes the bit about printers) is below part 2. I just clicked the "click here" link to part 1, which didn't work ...

Thanks guys - much appreciated. The bit about Printers still seems a bit vague though. If I have never connected to a printer or set one up, surely I am ok to delete this folder?

Jason, depending on how new your computer is and how much stuff you've accumulated, it might actually be less messy to burn a few backup CDs or dump your critical data (Home folder, etc.) to an external drive, then do a clean reinstall of OS X. When reinstalling you can decide to leave out GarageBand and printer drivers and anything else you see that you don't want installed. That's how I freed up a lot of space on my iBook last year.
