Not sure if any of you are into slides, but I came across a really high-res (7200 dpi) scanner that is primarily targeted to the pathology/histology markets. Anyway, it beats the pants off my Minolta DualScan (2400 dpi). This produces 10,080 x 6,480 pixels uninterpolated (188 MB!). Goes for $2000. It's probably beyond the resolution capability of most film, but hey, who's counting? Looks nice, too.

Pretty cool, though it seems like they are selling it primarily to the labs that cannot afford microscopes with digital imaging ability, which are far more expensive...

I'm not sure actually. You don't need an expensive camera for H&E stains, after all. Actually, if you hook up a 35-mm camera to a compound microscope (you know, like they used to do), the images are probably better than most digital cameras.

For my lab, I use a Hammamatsu Orca ER camera which ran about $16,000. One of these days I'm going to bring in my Nikon F4 and have a shootout.

Shouldn't this be under third party products?

Looks like a rebranded, overpriced PlusTek OpticFilm 7200 to me. The trouble with this scanner is that its optical resolution is nowhere near 7200 dpi, it's very slow, and it has a poor dynamic range. A CoolScan will out-scan it (and just about everything else too) every time.
