So what’s up with the massive increase in zero day attacks we are seeing lately? Apple has patched half a dozen in the past month, along with everyone else out there it seems. So seriously, what’s up with that? Are IT people getting lax on security? Is it the companies? Is it lazy programming from the get go?

Is the source code accessible to bad actors that have already scoured it for weaknesses so they can attack on day one?

No idea if it's a source code issue, some are due to poorly administrated networks, back doors, and malware. The usual really, it's just that attackers seem to be hitting a lot of targets lately. It's also possible that people are getting better at finding and reporting these issues.

Just this week there was an attack on server software the serves iOS mobile pages. I cannot bring myself to read all the articles, because lately there is more than one a week.

I’m not seeing a “massive increase”.

One zero-day that affected way too much code (STOP WRITING C) was in libwebp. Affected basically the entire Apple stack, including iMessage, but also Android and Chrome, including Chromium and therefore every single Electron-based app, so also things like Slack and Teams.

Keep in mind I’m not just talking about Apple, industry wide. Lately there has been at least one large notable breach per week for the last month.
