I bought my first mac (PB 15" 1.67Ghz Superdrive) this week after several months of waiting, reading these forums, and hoping you kids wern't just nuts about your love for everything apple...
I worried a lot about the big switch but have been been loving every minute of this machine. Everything on it just clicks. When you dont know how to do something you just need to ask yourself, "what would the easiest way to organize this be?" and apples has got it right there for you. Anyway, to get on with my first thread, I found one problem and I hope someone can tell me what I did wrong. I got Internet, and am set up on the windows-based network through the school here (i live in japan). The Internet and everything works fine.. I can go anywhere BUT I can't log in to anything. I have to sign in for my banking, credit card, e-mail and nothing works. (when I click on any sign-in button nothing happens. then after 2 minutes Ill get an error message) I even downloaded Explorer to see if it wasnt a bug with Safari but I had the same problem. I'm pretty much computer retarded so I was excited about only having this one problem.. but it is driving me crazy.. Help me, please. Yoroshikuonegaishimasu!!! |

Can you give more details. What error do you get? Are they secure (https) websites only which cause a problem?
By the way, most people avoid Explorer. You would be better using say Firefox or Camino as your second browser http://www.mozilla.org/ if you want one. |

Safari could not open the page “.........” because the server stopped responding.

I know of quite a few people who've been caught out by proxy settings in the past. It's not something that's immediately obvious especially when everything else seems to be working fine.

I think Unch might be onto something. Maybe your http proxy is set but your https isn't.
