I am running a 1 ghz titanium powerbook that cam standart with 512 mb of ram. I often use final cut express, pagemaker, and photoshop. Would my computer run faster with an extra 256mb?

Yes, adding more RAM will help.
Before buying anything you need to check and see if you have 1 512 chip or 2 256 chips.
You may end up having to buy 1 512 chip (or if you can afford it a 1gb chip).

Another thing to look at is your hard drive. If you have a 4200rpm drive then you know where your bottleneck is. You can upgrade to a 5400 or 7200rpm drive. Either will really speed up your powerbook.

My pb came with 2 256 chips (sucks!). I am unsure of my hard drive speed but it is the origonal. I think 5400 rpm. I don't have a whole lot of money but would love a speed boost.

check out crucial.com and OWC (macsales.com).
You didn't mention which PB you had so I'm not sure of prices.
You should expect to pay around $130 for a 512mb chip.

No, a 512 will run you a little under $100, if you buy from Other World Computing. 1 GB will be a bit over $200. And your hard drive is a 4200 RPM one if it's stock - only a few PowerBooks have even had an option for a 5400 RPM one, and you had to do a BTO to get one. So replacing your hard drive with a 5400 RPM or even a 7200 RPM one would give you a definite speed boost.

You are probably right about the 4200 rpm hard drive. A faster hard drive would make a difference in speed while doing what?

scratch disk in photoshop and illustrator would benefit greatly from a faster drive. of course, more RAM would probably make a bigger difference. i'm tempted to toss 2GB into my laptop because i can.

I'm also in the market for some RAM, actually, more to the point, I'm in the market for Garageband 2 and Jampack 4 which I shall go get RIGHT NOW!

How difficult is it to get an HD upgrade for your powerbook? I would love to throw a 5400 100GB in here, or a 7200 100 GB if they make them!
