Ok, I am getting very frustrated by everyone else getting their new Quads. . .meantime, I ordered mine fully boated with 4 x 1 GB sticks and 2 500 GB drives the first 10 minutes they were available on the Apple Store, only to see my order slip from 11/17/05 to 12/5/05 while others have received theirs. And that's with the standard 6600!!!
I am thinking of revising my order now and adding the 'extra' stuff from third parties. I have the following quesitons: 1. What is the 500 GB SATA drive coming with the new Quad? I see two manufactures: Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 500GB Hard Drive Serial ATA-300, 7200 RPM, 16MB Seagate - ST3500641AS Hitachi 500GB Hard Drive Serial ATA II, 7200 RPM, 16MB Hitachi - 0A31619 Does any one know which one I should order? The Hatachi is slightly cheaper but I do not know the difference between ATA-300 and ATA II. Which does the Quad need? The cost of upgrading to two 500 GBs on the Apple store is $875 but it looks like I can buy 2 500 GB drives from Pricegrabber for about $720, saving $150. 2. Memory. I see Monarch is advertising 2 x 1 GB sticks for $179, so 4 x 1 GB would cost about $360 versus the $700 Apple Store wants. This is hte link to the product--is this the right memory? http://www.monarchcomputer.com/Merch..._Code= 140686 (I missed the rebate. . .) Any purchasing advise is greatly appreciated. |

jcoley2 has, as you might know, ordered a new Power Macintosh Quad with 4GB RAM.
I have been wondering about this recently. Any theories on what he's going to do with it? |

Just having some fun. (I should have included an appropriate SPAM smiley.) Nobody's missed anything, but jcoley2 is a AN member who is mighty miffed about the moving target that is his Quad delivery schedule. Hope it arrives early jc2 so you can get to work doing that stuff.

Yeah why didn't you post this in jcoley2's thread?

I finally just got off with Apple after 1 hour today. While she did not outright confirm they are having problems with the Wireless + Bluetooth option, she was the first person to confirm that this is a built in option at the factory and cannot be added later. (I have no idea if she is correct or not.) She did indicate that this is the reason the Apple Stores are confused on why they have not been shipped this add on card option--they will never get them. I asked her how long would order be delayed to take the 7800 option instead of the 6600 and she thought only 1 month given that my order was placed 6 weeks ago. Ugh. . .I changed it to the 7800 and now the web order shows a ship date of 1/26/06. . . |

Bold move! The upsides are numerous, but include getting the computer you want out of the box and having all of that time back to be with your family over the holidays. Cheers.
