When you go to a restaurant and you don't know what to get and you go 'Maybe x?' and 'Maybe y?' and then you say 'No, I always get x, I'm going to get y or z this time' and then you say, 'No, actually, I really do want x, I really, really like it', and they bring it and you have one taste and you say 'I made absolutely the right choice.'
That first taste when the whole world disappears apart from your face. I think I could also be talking about slow-roast pork belly with crackling and mash in a pub that does proper food on a rainy Sunday afternoon with a mild hangover. (Wow, I miss London sometimes!) gibberish |

Waking up on a Saturday morning and seeing roughly 600 hot air balloons outside your front door.
Sadly, they're about 10 miles away, but still, it's that time of year when everyone here becomes a kid again. |

Your team raising the Stanley Cup banner to the rafters, then dispatching the Rangers for the opening night win. God I love hockey....
Also, to reiterate what others are claiming, hot chocolate / Irish Coffee and similar drinks on cold, overcast days, are made of win. ...into the light of a dark black night. |

A whole sweet juicy orange on a cold winter day.
I had one. I just had to have another immediately after. I am thinking of having a third. |

Dropbox.
Seriously. Why haven't I been using this more before? So easy to send large files and keep things synced between so many different computers. Also, Instapaper. For non Mac things that rule: having my dog greet me like she hasn't seen me in weeks after only being out of my parents' house for 2 days. I love that damn dog. No more Twitter. It's Mastodon now. |

Noticing some shrub I planted in the garden - can't even remember what it was that I planted - with small yellow blooms all over it and bees going crazy getting nectar from the flowers. That pleases me. Especially with all of the stories of bees not doing so well these days.
When there's an eel in the lake that's as long as a snake that's a moray. |

Holy crap. There should be laws against bumping 8 year old threads! In fact I think there are. I bumped a 3 or 4 year old thread once and I was promptly shut down like a clown by Brad Almighty.
Looking back at my original post I am amused, Mr. Bond... half of that stuff I no longer use / notice / remembered. I was way too cheery back then. Glad I found the light. With age comes wisdom and rightness. Example: I would replace every food item with: "My wife's fresh-cooked food and total lack of processed frozen food, processed sweets, and other crap (like Marie Calendar's dinners... Marie can suck it... she tried to kill me dead with saturated fat and cholesterol but now I know better)." Magazines? Bah. The only magazine I read now is the Economist, and even then sporadically. I find no value at all in paying for magazines now. Photography? The most inspiring photos are online (500px etc), not in a magazine (exception: Murbot's stash of classic bomber art pr0n and Playboys from the age before airbrushing and volleyball tits). A little thing that rules then, is not having to pay for magazines / using that money for something else. Basically I would cut 70% of the original stuff out and add: Sitting on the back patio in summer, sun setting, beer in hand, watching the birds fly around and the clouds roll overhead. Thundershirt. Yes, in her old age my dog has developed a severe distaste for lightning storms and fireworks. Thundershirt totally calms her down for storms, and calms her about 50% for fireworks. Seems like a gimmick but I got a first hand reference so I tried it. Damn things actually work (and the dog doesn't mind it at all)! ...into the light of a dark black night. |

Another awesome thing is that in the last post I accidentally typed "Thundershit" twice (good thing Apple spell-checker lets that one go), then caught it. Which made me laugh and think of this:
[WardCleaver-AdMan]"Yes friends, it's thundershit... that revolutionary new product to help your dog make it through storms and fireworks displays. With thundershit, your dog is just one bowel movement away from feeling totally relaxed! Big dog or small, thundershit is your playful pooch's ticket to freedom and relief. Buy one TODAY!"[/WardCleaver-AdMan] ...into the light of a dark black night. |

How about awesome diatribes written against Google Glass on Craig's List, interviewed by some SF periodical, linked by the NY Times?

The best quip about Google Glass I've heard (from a friend of a friend, both of whom are engineers at Google) is: Great, now Google has managed to create a Segway for your face.
Seen a man standin' over a dead dog lyin' by the highway in a ditch He's lookin' down kinda puzzled pokin' that dog with a stick |
