I think wifi and skype is the only solution unless you jailbreak.

Hmm well sounds like Skype is the only application that people seems to trust on here for pricing - So what plans do you guys have with AT&T? Do you guys get the basic 39.99 and the have to pay for $30.00 internet? I also found a text app called "TextPlus" that allows you to text, but I dont think you can get text when the iphone is off. oh well - I just want to save money - but then again who doesnt.

I have the basic $39.99 plus $30 'net, and I'm happy with it. My friends text, but I just add their to-text email to their contact as a secondary email and I fake text them Makes up for a texting plan.

I have an iPhone 3G, and have enough Points on my AmericanExpress to buy their iPhone 3G giftcard, and on Top of that my Father N-Law wants to buy me the new 3Gs since I moved him over to Apple with a new MBP and then would want my 3G. So getting one is not an issue, it's just the Stupid commitment for 2 years at a billions dollars a month!!!!!!!!!
