Greetings folks! This is my first time posting on these forums.

My parents own a rev.A iMac G5 running 10.4 Tiger. The problem is that any audio played through quicktime in classic mode plays extremely slowly. Any classic app that plays through quicktime exhibits this (It's kinda weird to play Tomb Raider II when Lara sounds like a man...ugh ). There is no stuttering or skipping though. I tried opening a movie file in quicktime classic, and the video plays normal speed but the sound is slow. Quicktime in Tiger plays the same files without problems, and the system is up-to-date. I own a new 12" PowerBook and it does not have this problem. I am fairly new to Macs, so beyond reinstalling QuickTime 6 for OS9 and Classic (neither of which worked) I am at a loss. Any ideas?

Hmmm... that is very strange indeed...

A few questions:

How much RAM is installed on this iMac?

The problem only occurres in Quicktime? And only with audio?

Did you try to test (audio only files) aiff files or mp3 with Quicktime in Classic? Have the same problem with that?

Thanks for replying..
-The iMac has 512MB of RAM.
-I did some more testing, and it seems to be having problems with all audio playback in classic, not just what is being played through quicktime (e.g., the voices in the classic speech control panel are extremely distorted as well)

The only application that they have that needs classic is Tomb Raider II (But it's important! )

You could try calling Apple... this seems like a fairly specific bug with regard to the iMac and classic on 10.4. When did you purchase Tiger and do you have AppleCare?

I got the copy of Tiger about a month after it came out. My folks do have applecare with this computer, so I might just call apple and see what they say.

As a side note, I just tried doing an archive-and-install which did not resolve the problem either. Maybe 10.4.3 will help when apple releases it...

IT'S FIXED!!
I installed the 10.4.3 update, which did approximately nothing to solve this problem. About a week ago though, the sound just randomly started working fine, right in the middle of gameplay! It has been fine ever since. Unfortunately, I have no idea how the issue resolved itself...
