Need to clean up. Is there a strong reason to keep the box to a Mac product?

Not unless you're Stephen Hackett or me (hoarder superextraordinaire).

1) It adds to resale value (not a lot, but it does add);

2) It provides a convenient box for shipping/taking places;

3) If a Mac Pro box, it makes a convenient plant stand.

I always have/do, for kscherer’s reasons 1 and 2 above. If I go to sell it, it just “looks” better/more complete if it’s in the original packaging, styrofoam, etc. And if you’re moving or whatever, it gives your Mac a safe place to travel. I can always spare a bit of space on the back (or top) of a closet to hang on to my Mac boxes.

Bear in mind, I only ever have one Mac at any given time, so it’s not that hard. YMMV if you’re a 2-4 Mac household. But I’d still find a place to save them.

I used to hoard boxes for all the reasons above. Here is the problem, I don't sell my gear. Any time I've had to have something repaired, I was sent a brown box to mail with, not my original box. (That is if I didn't walk into an Apple Store.)
