Didn't see a thread about it yet. Safari 4 is in software update.

I just downloaded it from their web site. Uber-snappeh, tabs now correctly oriented.

Yeah, I just got back from installing it. It is a bit different then the Beta I was running.

I must admit I'm eager to go back to the old way of handling tabs. The vertical space savings weren't enough. |

Really? It's really sluggish on my hackintosh. Like... really sluggish. I wonder why? The second version of the beta fricking flew and never beach balled.
Update: Not sure what was going on at first, but after browsing to 5 pages or so the speed has greatly increased. Odd, since all of the pages I've visited were previously cached anyway. I agree it is teh $|\|@pp13 (snappie) ! ...and calling/e-mailing/texting ex-girlfriends on the off-chance they'll invite you over for some "old time's sake" no-strings couch gymnastics... |

Basically, same as any other post-reboot launch of Safari 3. |

Hackintosh. You mean Psystar? Maybe you should start using a real Mac and you won't have these problems (though seems to be working now).

Would it be bad form to upgrade my friend's iMac and MacBook to the new Safari while I'm here? Or should I wait for her to return Thursday night and give the "okay"?
What's the protocol on this sort of thing? I've already done those recent iLife and other updates, but those aren't really things you notice in a day-to-day way. Safari 4 looks a bit different from 3. Think she'd mind? If it's fast and stable, I'm guessing not... I've got free reign of her house, kitchen, car, etc. I guess that would extend to her browser? And I assume all her bookmarks and history items would be retained? Dumb question, I know...just making double-sure. |

Bastards. I really liked the tabs up top. And it's still missing the ability to make an app out of a website that I thought they promised.

Scates: I don't see any harm in it. Doesn't replace any bookmarks or history or anything AFAIK. You can tell them "I optimized your browser" and let them be amazed at the performance gains. "Paul you're a genius!"
You'll enjoy that right up until "Paul do you think you could fix my Mom's computer? It's running slow." ...into the light of a dark black night. |

Paul, as Moogs says... no apparent change to bookmarks or History... just make sure you reboot and run it a few times.
Top Sites takes a bit of time to reindex and gather fresh previews... still loading thumbs a few minutes after restart You don't want them to fire it up for the first time and mistake optimization for borkedness. All those who believe in telekinesis, raise my hand. |

I've been using the 4.0 beta on my iMac at home for a good while now (the first day it was made available, whenever that was). Are you all being serious when you're saying it's that much faster? It's that noticeable?'
Hell, I'm doing it... Back in a couple. |

Oh god. They FINALLY made the combined stop/reload button more usable!!!
Stop now has this huge clickable area, but reload is still just the small circular arrow, meaning "accidental reload" mis-clicks from slow pages are far less likely. THANK YOU APPLE. Also, top tabs? Good riddance! The quality of this board depends on the quality of the posts. The only way to guarantee thoughtful, informative discussion is to write thoughtful, informative posts. Looks like the Develop Menu has some more detailed options as well...
Didn't see the User Agent strings for Mobile Safari (iPhone and iPod Touch) and quite so many previous Browser subversions before. And it's Parsecs faster. All those who believe in telekinesis, raise my hand. Last edited by curiousuburb : 2009-06-08 at 16:43. Reason: added speed comment |

One slight hiccup, but otherwise I am impressed.
Considering it's on a G4 with 10.4.11 that's saying a lot. |

It switches from that dark blue to a light gray then back to the normal address bar so fast it's like a strobe. Hopefully I'll get use to it, but right now it catches my eye every time it changes. A bit annoying, but better than the tiny "x" from the beta.
