5:27, but that was back in highschool when I ran cross country, track, CC skiing etc.

There were guys running under 5 minute miles though, so ~5:30 range wasn't that good.

Since then I have pulverized my ankle and gotten strict orders no running ever. As much as I ran before, it wasn't that hard to give up. I hated running.

I had 5:4x in high school when we had to run the mile. I almost died afterwards, but I had to stay up with my friends (who all played soccer)…although they got 5 or under…I tried.

Now there is NO WAY I could do that now. I should start running and see what I can do.

I want to say that I ran the quarter in 67sec's, and the 2 mile in like, 12:19.

But I don't recall a mile time..... But that was 27 years ago.

Jeez, under 5:30 is pretty intense. Under 5 is just craaazy. Damn. It took me so long to get it under 6...I definitely had to drop mad weight to be able to.

I wouldn't be able to get it under 5 unless I dropped like 30 lbs...I'd be sickly if I did that, though.

I don't know my exact single mile time but the last 5K I ran I did in exactly 21:00, so that would be a 7 minute mile roughly...

Not much of a runner, at all. I can swim a mile really fast, probably under 15:00, but run...I have no idea.

The last time that I ran a mile for time was when I was a senior in high school (three years ago), I had a swim meet that day so even though I woke up feeling like I had been hit by a bus, I went to school anyway. I was in a cold sweat the whole day, I was pale as a ghost, every time a friend saw me they told me, "wow...you don't look so good." I was running a fever of about 101.5 (my regular body temperature is about 96.5...not 98.6...I know, I'm weird) so that was a really high fever for me. I went to gym class, shivering like mad and still in a cold sweat and was told it was mile day.

So instead of doing the intelligent thing and telling my teacher (who would have undoubtedly noticed that I was about to keel over) that I wasn't up to running, I ran it anyway. It was quite possibly one of the worst experiences of my life. I don't recommend running the mile when you probably have the flu.

In conclusion, I suck at running, flu or not. I'd rather swim. I swam pretty well when I was sick.

Come waste your time with me

Back at the beginning of high school, somewhere around 9:30 for just the mile, IIRC. However by the time we did the four-mile thing I got it down to about an 8-minute average.

I dunno how fast I can run a mile, but I am about to start running regularly, so I'll be sure to keep track of that for the future. I'm going to start slowly of course.

4:50, give or take a couple of seconds - it was 1985!! And, I used indulge in the odd ciggy or 5.

Cross country practice. This was on flat hard grass/dirt. My experience has been that this type of course is faster than the track over this distance because the corners don't slow you down. My fastest 10k time is about 5 minutes faster (35 and 40 mins) on the road than on the track (but it also compares training with racing).

I weighed about 135. Now I'm at 170 now (still beautiful, though).

Running is fun.

Whoa, our first <5, mile? Nice. If I ever ran the mile around 4:40-4:50, I'd be determined to hit that 4 minute mark. What you did is incredible though, man.

I think the difference between 4:00 and 4:50 is much greater (harder to overcome) than the difference between say 8:00 and sub 5:00minutes. There is much less margin to improve on. For me, there was no where to go but slower at that point.

Back in junior year of high school, I ran a 4:38. I haven't run a mile comptetively since high school. I'd probably be around 7:00-7:30 now. I'm in decent shape but have in no way trained for middle distance.

Yeah, progress on the mile time is not linear. Getting to 4:30 was my goal that season, and it was really hard. It can take a whole season or more to improve from 4:30 to 4:20. There was this one guy at another school who was running a 4:13 mile that year and finally hit 4:10 at the state champoinships. He then got down to 4:08 at the end of the next season.

Now I'm inspired to try this again. I live across the street from a school, and I think I'll run four laps on their track this weekend just for kicks and giggles. Hopefully no puke.

4:30.

As in: 4 hours and 30 minutes.

Running is for people who have left insufficent time to get there. Or aren't important enough for the people at the other end to wait for them.

Even then, it's doubtful if running is a solution! I drive my girlfriend mad by absolutely refusing to run to catch a departing bus/train/other mode of transport. Bloody undignified I say.

But I'll concede that some of the times here are very impressive. I ran a lot in my teens (middle and long distance) and know that the pace of a five minute mile is shocking.

I've never ran a mile, while measuring it. But I once did 2850 meters on a cooper test in the army 4 years ago. Probably pretty average.

It wouldn't make any sense converting it into a minutes on a mile figure cause I would probably run a lot faster on such a short distance.

Not that I'm ever going to bother, now that I'm a civilian.

The only way I'd ever even consider running is if a boyfriend/husband came home unexpected.
