I have an external HD connected to my PowerBook. Im trying to go from connecting it via firewire to connecting it via USB so I can capture video using my firewire port.
However when I try to use USB it doesnt recognize it.. Im assuming this is because it is having a hard time throwing out the firewire drivers and switching to USB or something.. because last time after 10 reboots it finally got it to go USB, then once it got that I tried to go back to Firewire and it took 10 more.. how can i fix this? |

wha?
Oh, and I've tried hooking up the Firewire drive via USB 2.0 to my PC, and putting it on the network, but capturing video over a wireless network is impossible, right? its not fast enough. (fcp just froze up) |

Oh yeah, also how do you arrange folders on mac?
I want my folders to be above my files.. for example, arrange by file type like windows has etc.. is that possible in osx |

Personally, I don't use USB when it comes to video editing. And I have a G5. I'm sure my Dual G5 can handle it, its just that the USB protocol uses more processor power than firewire and I want that extra bit when I capture/edit DV.
My suggestions: 1) Forget NAS (Network Attached Storage). It really isn't practical/affordable yet. 2) Most hard drives have 2 firewire ports. You plug your drive into your computer and your camera into the drive. DV video uses only a fraction of the firewire bandwidth. You system should be able to handle this. Unless you KNOW this setup doesn't work, or you have a early G3 system (pre built-in USB 2) in which you have a bigger problem. 3) If you are indeed out of firewire ports, get a firewire hub. That is the cheapest solution I can think of. EDIT: Click Arrange by size twice, hit command-J, and disable "calculate folder sizes". Only problem is the filenames are reverse-alphabetized. |

Yeah, I've checked all that.. very wierd, because under my "view options" all I have to the choice to do is.. nothing about "keep arranged by"

Ah, you're in column view. Icon and list view have many more options.
