'Tis the horrors of Pikes Peak I'm surprised that the road was even that good, considering that I've driven and taken the tram up that mountain. Most of it is rocks and gravel, but also lots of loose junk.

Isn't a fairly large part of that road paved? The bottom half, maybe?

Pikes Peak is paved only about 1/4 of the way up - one of these days I really need to get up there. Probably have to retune the engine halfway for the low O2 content, but what the hell.

The "tourist" road is paved all the way, but there are a few back-roads on different faces of it.

When I went up about two years ago, it wasn't. Maybe 1/4 was pavement and the rest was dirt. We never went over 20mph and I was on pins and needles the entire way so I can't imagine racing up the road, but they do every year.
