Read this at the other site - dated Friday January 7 - I'm surprised nobody else picked up on it. (I did a search of Soundtrack and could not find any mention of it.)

This helps reduce the clutter/overlap in their audio applications line-up, which frustrated me purely on an aesthetic level.

Now I guess they'll have GB -> Logic Express -> Logic PRO

- I'm not fussed by Soundtrack either - but at least it shows that Apple is tidying up its line-up and (presumably) GB or Logic Express is going to inherit most of Soundtrack's functionality/feature set.

That was quick. I did wonder about that - I remember when Soundtrack came out, and it was indeed the first of Apple's low end audio apps. When Garage Band came out, I wondered what would happen to it. When Logic Express came out, I was thinking to myself, "Why is Soundtrack still around again?" Guess this has been waiting to happen.

I wonder if this means that GarageBand 2.0 will have the capability to match music to a video? That is the only thing Soundtrack had over GB.

Actually you could also do time based effects changes and a few other things... Soundtrack is quite a lot more versatile than the current Garageband.

I also felt that the moment Logic Express came out that Soundtrack was doomed.. It simply made perfect sense.

Anyway, I remember saying this would happen and would be logical about four or five months ago...

It seems Final Cut Express swallowed Soundtrack whole.

Final Cut Pro HD still has Soundtracks bundled. I guess v5 will have Logic Express bundled, if so that would be great
