I just got a big promotion, and as part of the new job, I'll be getting a new MacBook Pro. I'm not sure of the specs yet, since the person who will be ordering it is off until Tuesday, but I believe it will end up being the current base model.

We just switched all our Windows machines to Office 2007, and I really dislike Office 2004 on the Mac. I'm considering asking for Office 2007 instead of 2004 and just running it in Parallels.

I need to have Parallels to use MS Enterprise Manager for our MS SQL server (and a handful of other programs on occasion), so I'll have XP SP2 installed anyway.

Has anyone here run Office 2007 in Parallels yet? Was it stable and fast enough for every day use?

Works good. Native speeds.

I think you'll find that true for all Windows apps except those that require 3D hardware.

Yeah, just run it in Parallels. As long as you have 2 or more GB of RAM, you'll be fine.

I'm confused. Are you rolling your eyes at me for not liking Microsoft's Mac software or for the odds of it coming out on time?

Honestly, I don't see it coming out on time at all. I do like the look of the new version on the Mac, though.

That said, I'd rather buy the best version that's available now than have to tell my boss a few months down the road that I want a new version. Leopard (if I get it) will likely be my only software upgrade this year on that machine.

The rolling eyes was at Microsoft... sorry for the confusion.

I was eyerolling because there is no date of release and no sign of beta. We are in second half of 2007

I have run office 2007 in parallels on a full time basis every day for several months and love it. Mac Office 2004 pales by comparison. If you run Parallels in "Coherance" mode you'll hardly even notice the windows presence. Office 2007 is really a great product. I am really disappointed that Office 2008 for the Mac was delayed but can easily use office 2007 and be very happy. The ribbon works great and I hope the Mac version will adopt it.
