I always wanted to make ice cream, so I finally decided to do something about it. Good news? Homemade ice cream is amazing. Bad news? I may gain 30 pounds. Here's my recipe for "berry berry ice cream" (please share your recipes, if you've done it before):

Ingredients:
2 cups raspberries
2 cups blackberries
1 cup lowfat goatmilk
2 cups heavy whipping cream
1 1/2 cup organic cane sugar
juice from 1 Meyer lemon
2 eggs

Heat berries in sauce pan.
Add sugar, lemon juice, milk, and cream.
Whisk eggs in a separate bowl.
Add eggs to ice cream mixture slowly with tempering.
Mix thoroughly and refrigerate mixture overnight or until ice cream is to be made.

Oh dear.

I'm going shopping today.

That's it. I'm going to have to buy some ice cream now. Thanks, ezkcdude

I'd make homemade ice cream but I don't think I have the patience to let it chill overnight. Seriously, it's been like I've been craving ice cream forever without knowing it. Now I must have some.

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong

That looks awesome! I might have to give it a try.

My favorite homemade ice cream is simple banana. Just follow the directions on the box for normal vanilla but mix some fresh bananas in. Delicious.

Which ice cream maker do you have? I bought the really cheap ($30) 1 qt Rival from Target. It overheated the first time I tried using it, but that's because the ice cream mixture was not cool enough, and the bowl was not completely frozen. When I used it today it worked great.

For anyone similarly afflicted, Dreyer's ice cream is on sale at Target this week. Yum.

Yes, it's worth the ridiculous price.

I normally get Ben & Jerry's too, but I didn't have the money this time. $3 for 1 1/2 quarts seemed a lot better than like $4 for a pint.

I used to work literally next door to a Haagen-Dazs. It was lovely.

I think that's it. White thing with a blue rim to it? I guess the directions for vanilla I spoke of earlier aren't on the box, it's in the book that comes with the thing. But I was close.

Hmm...my favorite cookie of all time is Mrs. Fields white chocolate macadamia nut. Maybe that will be my next ice cream.

Just in time for Thanksgiving...Trying out a new non-dairy pumpkin pie ice cream recipe. Here are the ingredients:
  • Pumpkin puree
  • Coconut milk
  • Soy milk
  • Sorghum syrup
  • Guar gum
  • spices (cinnamon, allspice, cloves)
  • vanilla extract
That's it. Pretty simple really. Tastes very good.
