I found a few references to "Macintosh" when searching the apple.com site, but for the most part all I see are "Mac" references. It's a conspiracy I tell you!

"Macintosh" hasn't been used much in a long time.

I was going to say the same thing, and Mac just is short for Macintosh anyway,

My first "new out of the box" Apple system was a Macintosh II...

For some reason, this makes me a bit disappointed. I'm not sure why, but it's like... something changed and I wasn't aware, and now it's over.

Eh, I'll get over it in a second or two.

I think there are exactly two references to 'Macintosh' in OS X:

About Finder and Macintosh HD.

Macs will further be reduced to simply "mini", "pro", "book" and "i" in the near future.

I can't wait for the Apple IV to debut.

I love the word Macintosh. I think it would be great if they called it Macintosh OS10.

Apple IV: The Voyage Home

Steve Jobs teams up with Steve Wozniak to travel back in time through a hilarious accident involving a Newton, a Segway, and an ill-timed "And then... *boom*" to stop the creation of a world where Paul Allen never joins MS, and Bill Gates' ego, now unchecked, leads to an unfortunate DOD contract ending in nuclear annihilation. 

Perhaps they just realize that they've used one kind of apple for too long, and are going to start new product lines with new apples: Golden Delicious, Granny Smith, etc.

You have it so easy these days with resistors, we had to make our own with really long spools of wire!

Screw wires, one of the early computers had *acoustic* delay lines. A sound wave propagating through liquid was the timing mechanism. Only problem: as the liquid (water) warmed up, the delay changed. Anecdotally, Alan Turing hit on the solution while having lunch: a combination of distilled water and ethyl alcohol. The two liquids have inverse temperature/acoustic propagation characteristics, and cancelled out the effect.

His inspiration? A gin and tonic.

And then there was the time Seymour Cray altered the coupling cables between motherboards by hand, after eyeballing them and realizing that they were at half-wavelength resonance with the frequency being transmitted... grabbed a pair of wire clippers, took off a bit, plugged it back in, and voila. It worked.

I think "Macintosh 10" sounds okay, and "Mac OS 10" sounds okay, but "Macintosh OS 10" is a bit much.

Of course, "System #" was where it was at. Whoo!

and i guess i've known it all along / the truth is, you have to be soft to be strong
