Hi, I have a problem with my computer, it's a 867 Mhz G4 running OSX 10.4, tonight I tried to use it and the next message in a black screen appears:
diskOs9: I/0 error. /etc/master.passwd: Input/output error diskOs9: I/0 error. -sh: /etc/profile: Input/output error -sh-2.05b# I hope somebody can help me because I don't know what to do. Thank you very much. |

Does it give you a shell that you can type at and run commands successfully?

Sounds like a HDD problem, you might want to insert the restore-CD/DVD and use disk-utikity to check the drives integrity...
When you do, pay special attention to "S.M.A.R.T. status:" located at the bottom right of the disk-utility window. If it says anything other than verified, you might want to replace the HDD immediately. |

I just got a similar message:
"/etc/master.passwd: No such file or directory -sh-2.05#" Im guessing the restore dvd is the same as the install cd? Thats the only one that came with my Powerbook. |

You need to restart the computer while holding down the "C" key so that the computer will boot using the Installer disc.
When it does boot, go to the Utilities menu to run Disk Utility. |

Did you run both the Repair Disk Permissions, AND the Repair Disk as well?
If so, the next step would be to go to Startup Disk (also under the Utilities menu) and see if you can select your hard drive. |

That should fix it, but it might have been avoided by running a Reset Password while booted from the Installer disc. Sorry I didn't check back into this thread sooner.
