Interesting - trying to kill Open GL?

Am I missing something? OS X is not on the list of supported OSs.

[edit]
Oops, didn't see "Macintosh" as the first item on the list. I was specifically searching for OS X.

Still, an .exe file isn't going to fire up in OS X. Especially one coded to work with all the versions of Windows listed on that screen.

Well, the first one is Macintosh, but I'm going to go out on a limb and guess that was a typo.

I imagine "Macintosh" listed as the supported operating systems is just a mistake. There's no evidence of any actual download for Mac.

Yea, I edited my original post. I was looking for OS X, my eyes glossed right over "Macintosh".

It has to be a typo unless it's anti-trust related.

It may well be a typo.

Just thought it was interesting, as did hardmac.

At least the superior system is mentioned first.

By Macintosh, maybe they mean VPC? Some grunt in Redmond just doesn't know to specify it any better than that.

Yes, it's true. DirectX 10 will not be OS-specific, so this Feb 06 update (DX 9c) that supports MacOS X should not be a surprise.

Err... except for one big thing:

It doesn't.

Last I checked, Mac OS X will not run Windows .exe binaries.

WPF (Windows Presentation Foundation) codenamed Avalon is the way Windows Vista will display its 2D and 3D graphics (ala Quartz in Mac OS X) with .NET framework and a proprietary XML implementation (XAML and Jscript).

Microsoft will release WPF/E for Mac OS X (E is for "Everywhere") but it will lack support for 3D acceleration and special effects, so we will just have vector garphics

Eventually they will release a version that can be run on MacOS X.

What would a Mac version of Dx mean anyways? We wouldn't have the rest of the APIs, so we couldn't run games, right? on the flipside, would this allow hardware graphics accelerated virtualization?

It would mean easier porting of directx-based games.

MacDX has already done a lot of work at getting Direct X on OS X.

Just thought I'd throw this in there.

DX is the whole API package. Direct3D is the Graphics API component.

It would make things easier on developers but the last thing OS X needs is to grow dependent on Microsoft technology for game development. Ugh.

I'll bet the "Supported Operating Systems" thing is done via some sort of web form. Perhaps the person making this page checked the box by accident.

As anyone can clearly see, Macintosh is no longer listed as a choice for DirectX downloads:

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

The above will probably break.
